arXiv, pronounced "archive" with the "X" representing the Greek letter chi (χ), is an open-access repository hosting electronic preprints and postprints—known as e-prints—that have been approved for posting following moderation, but not peer review. It encompasses scholarly papers in disciplines such as mathematics, physics, astronomy, electrical engineering, computer science, quantitative biology, statistics, mathematical finance, and economics. Many researchers in these fields routinely deposit their work on arXiv prior to formal journal publication. Since its inception on August 14, 1991, arXiv.org has reached significant milestones, including over half a million articles in 2008 and exceeding one million by 2014. As of April 2021, it receives approximately 16,000 submissions per month.
